Object Description

This is striking clock in more than one respect.

Both the cannalée-style case and dial are profusely decorated with blue enamel and gilding, beautifully executed to stunning effect.

The eight day gong-striking and repeating moment has the original bimetallic balance on a silvered platform. The backplate bears Drocourt’s usual trademark – the initials D C to either side of a carriage clock, and is stamped with the serial number 11933, as is the rear of the front-plate. This serial number dates the clock to c.1880. All wheel crossings are straight. The clock strikes the hours and the passing of the half hour on a coiled gong.

The dial carries the same floral decoration of gilding and enamel, with Roman black-painted numerals, and below it a subsidiary Arabic alarm dial.

Matching blued steel hands.
