Object Description
Gilt bronze jardinière with hardstone fruits
French, Early 20th Century
Height 15cm, width 57cm, depth 26cm
The jardinière is wonderfully cast from gilt bronze and filled with a selection of polychrome hardstone fruits.
The body of the jardinière or planter is covered with motifs inspired by the natural world, for example, flowers. A pair of handles allows for the easy transportation of the piece and adds a further decorative element to the antique. Each one is of acanthus leaf shape. A removable metal liner is placed inside the jardinière.
The planter is filled with a magnificent collection of fruits. For example, grapes, apples, and pears are realistically carved, and the natural colouring of the hardstones adds to the life-like appearance of the pieces.
Consisting of numerous wonderful objects executed to the highest standard, the jardinière with fruit ornamentation would make a superb statement piece in one’s space.
