Without shade: Height 49cm, width 25cm, depth 17cm
This wonderful Rococo style lamp, crafted from gilt bronze, is designed in the manner of the famous Rococo period sculptor, Claude Michel, or, as he is often known, Clodion. The lamp features a vase-form body that is modelled in the round with a continuous scene of carousing putti. The shoulders of the lamp are set with grotesque masks and rectangular handles, while the lamp itself is supported by a socle above a square base. From the top of the vase-form body springs a waisted neck, which in turns supports the lighting apparatus and the cream lampshade.
