Object Description
England, circa 1910
These early 20th century tortoise bells, specifically with the cellulose faux tortoiseshell top (often mis-catalogued as genuine) are now incredibly rare. They do turn up however given the fragile nature, fewer and fewer are complete and intact.
The quality of the shell and its simulation is extremely high, and mounted above a gold plated body elevates this overall effect. The tortoiseshell and gold make a perfect match for an object of great extravagance!
By depressing the head or the tail, the original wind up mechanism is released. This bell has a charming ring to it, that is greatly sought.
