Object Description
This very nice oval George II silver and blond tortoiseshell tobacco box was made C1730 and has a reeded lid rim, the lid is unusually hinged – they are often a pull off lid, the sides are silver and the base is tortoiseshell, the lid is tortoiseshell and has a central oval plaque which reads Prosperity to the Borough of Lewes. The hinged lid fits well and the shell is in good order, a couple of small chips underneath but nothing at all serious, a very nice box.
