Object Description
This very nice Provincial William & Mary Britannia silver West Country porringer was made in Exeter C1698 by J. Murch and measures 3.75 inches tall by 4 3/8 inches in dia and is 6.5 inches handle to handle, it is spirally fluted to the bottom third of the body with a band of engraved leaf designs above and a raised and gadrooned band to the top third with a repeat of the engraved leaves above, it has cast and scrolled handles either side in a rope design and bears the pin prick engraving of SP over SP 1698 to the front and has hallmarks the the side of the makers mark struck twice and Britannia struck twice. It is a super porringer in excellent condition weighing 5.35 ounces or 167 grams.
