Object Description
A good grande sonnerie carriage clock originally retailed by Mappin and Webb, complete with its original leather carrying case and key.
The eight day French movement has the original silvered lever platform escapement. The backplate is unsigned but numbered 64, as is the key. There is a choice of strike, the strike function selected by way of a lever to the underside of the clock giving a choice of
Grande Sonnerie (strikes the hours and quarters on two gongs at each quarter) /
Petite Sonnerie (just the quarters on the two gongs and the hour on the hour) /
Silence.
The alarm sounds on one gong.
The gorge style case has been newly regilded, and so is as new.
The perfect white enamel dial is signed for MAPPIN & WEBB, with black Arabic numerals on the time dial, and also for the alarm below. The dials are set into a gilt mask.
