Object Description
An Ancient Greek, core-formed amphorikos, made of a beautiful dark cobalt blue glass. The vessel is composed of a rounded, conical, top-shaped body, which tapers down towards the base, sitting on a small, circular, flattened base-knob. From the rounded shoulders, a trumpet-styled neck flares out to a circular mouth with a wide, everted rim, enriched by a yellow encircling trail on the outer edge. Two strap handles, one dark blue and the other light blue, have been applied on either side of the neck, just below the everted rim to the top of the shoulders. The body of the amphorikos is decorated with a large frieze of trailing, alternating between yellow and light blue glass. It has been tooled to create a zigzag pattern, forming shallow vertical ridges on the sides of the vessel. The frieze is framed by a pair of bands below and an irregular yellow spiral, beginning at the dark blue strap handle, above, on the rounded shoulders of the bottle. The base-knob features a small indent at its centre, from which a yellow trail spirals out, decorated the edge of the base.
The piece has been mounted on a custom-made stand. Please note that the measurements below include the stand. The amphorikos alone measures 6.9cm in height, 4.7cm in length, and weighs 46.5g.
