Object Description
An ancient Greek, Hellenistic, core-formed alabastron, made of a beautiful dark blue glass. The vessel is composed of a straight-sided fusiform body, which widens towards the bottom, before tapering in to a point. A long, slender, cylindrical neck rises to a small circular mouth, surrounded by an wide, irregular rim-disk. Two short, horizontal lug handles have been applied on either side near the top of piece. The alabastron is decorated with white trailing, tooled into a feather pattern in panels of upward and downward strokes. The trailing is drawn into a spiral to the top and bottom of the vessel, framing the central feather pattern.
The piece has been mounted on a custom-made stand. Please note that the measurements below include the stand. The alabastron alone measures 12.2cm in height, 3.5cm in length, and weighs 67.5g.
