Hall Staffordshire pearlware bocage figure with a religious theme which features St. Mark holding a bible, with a lion laying at his feet, stood on an oval hollow base. The piece is titled, ‘ST. MARK’. Decorated ‘in the round’ – decoration to front and reverse.
Generally good. Two tight (stabilised) hairlines to base at rear. Some small flakes to around the base rim, to the bocage, left foot and hand. KILN EFFECTS: some small glaze misses to cloak; touch marks to left leg and base; small firing pit to base front; over glazed shrinkage line to right ankle; kiln detritus caught in the glaze to neck and chin. RESTORATION: One branch remodelled. Filled chips to leaves and flowers. Stabilised and retouched crack to base at rear. Retouched flakes to base, robe, sandals and bible.
