Object Description
Original Oil on board by British artist David Humphreys.
As a Monmouthshire boy I’m disappointed only to crowbar one Welsh painter into the show but David is a fine ambassador for our shared culture. We have shown his paintings directly from his studio from time to time but this is an early work, from the 1960s or ’70s. It sparks all manner of Hiraeth for me as although I live in a particularly verdant Welsh county, I’m one mountain away from the Welsh valleys and all the historical industrial scarring that implies. This foreboding slag heap of a hill behind the little community, complete with chapel, could be a brand logo for much of South Wales.
Available at Panter and Hall.
