Object Description

A Stuart supporters medallion with portrait of Charles I with the motto “Carolus D G Mag Brit Fran Et Hib Rex Fi D” translation Charles King of Great Britain, France and Ireland and on the obverse the full Royal arms with garter and crowned with motto of the Order of the Garter “Honi soit que mal y pense” translation “shame on him who thinks evil of it”.

Object History

These medallions were created after Charles I was overthrown then beheaded. It was worn by supporters of Charles I and would be worn hidden under clothes to show their support to the Stuart royal family, circa 1660.
