Numbered 6, this lidded oval canister painted and decorated to depict a Chinese figure with trading goods in front of a ship all within a Greek key pattern border.

“Japanner of Grocer’s Tea Canisters” John Bartlett was born circa 1825 in London.
By 1852 the firm was called J Bartlett & Son, and in 1880 it was listed at 2 & 3 Welsh Back, Bristol; in 1910 the firm was taken over by Henry Pooley & Son of Birmingham, who were in turn taken over by W &T Avery in 1914.
