Object Description
A luxurious Marquetry card and games table by Jules Leleau of Paris with an inlaid sycamore and ebony chess board surrounded with scrolls and swags of exquisite craftsmanship. The sinuously crafted fruitwood tabletop flips to reveal a fawn baize card table for four players with four pull-out discreet cup holders, and one further larger drawer surmounted by a small gilt brass handle.
A similar item by Jules Leleu owned by the fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld was sold at auction by Sotheby’s New York in 2004.
