Object Description

Woven raffia skirt length made of differing size squares all with appliqué geometric decoration dyed in natural pigments and sewn together with flax thread, edged with a plain woven raffia border. Kuba, Congo. Second half of the 20th century

Object History

Kuba cloth is made from the handwoven fibres of raffia palm leaves. The cloth is then dyed with natural pigments and decorated with similarly dyed and woven applique geometric patterns.
