Object Description
Labradorite and silver bird model
Continental, 20th Century
Height 10cm, width 11cm, depth 12cm
Crafted in the 20th century the stone model depicts a hummingbird perched on top of an unusual rock.
The bird is carved from labradorite, an unusually coloured stone. Composed of shades of green, black and brown, the stone also features parts in iridescent blue. The latter ensures that pieces crafted from this stone are bound to be eye-catching and intriguing. The iridescent blue is visible on the hummingbird’s side and underbelly, a clever positioning of such a surprising colour. The bird model needs to be carefully analysed from all angles for the shimmering surprise to be visible.
A lighter, yellow-toned semi-precious stone was used to carve the slender, long beak and two round black stones have been used for the bird’s eyes.
The bird’s body rests on silver legs, which are delicately positioned on the unusually shaped rock. The muted colours of the rock beautifully match the more vibrant hues of the bird model.
Masterfully crafted from a selection of luxurious materials, this hummingbird model is a very desirable addition to one’s collection.
