Lapis lazuli and vermeil vase attributed to Asprey
English, c. 1980
Height 51cm, width 24cm, depth 20cm
Attributed to Asprey, the world-famous firm of goldsmiths, silversmiths and jewellers, this vase is of a modern and elegant design.
The goblet shaped vase is made from luxurious materials, lapis lazuli and silver gilt. The vibrant blue semi-precious stone has been beautifully carved to act as the vase bowl, one which is expertly placed in a silver gilt stand. The conical shaped bowl is ornamented with naturally occurring speckled patterns in shades of white and navy. Elegant silver gilt strips run down the length of the vase and around its circumference creating a secure stand for the lapis lazuli. The combination of the vivid blue of the vase bowl and the shining gold of the stand creates a beautiful play of textures and colours.
Lapis lazuli carries spiritual meanings and is known as the stone of wisdom, making this superb vase that much more special.
Expertly made and attributed to one of the best makers, this vase would make a fantastic addition to one’s collection.
