Object Description
A large highly decorative 18th century Continental life size carved oak figure of possibly the Greek God of Medicine, Asclepius.
This figure consists of a life size carved oak figure (possibly originally polychromed), his long curly hair resting on his shoulders, his left arm raised with a serpent or snake entwined around his right hand. He is dressed in a chiton (or tunic) and himation or chlamys (cloak) supported on circular carved base on moulded square plinth.
This figure is in very good original condition for age, is of stable construction and can go straight into a home and would make a superb statement piece !
