Object Description
A large 19th Century walnut deep buttoned leather upholstered stool.
Of large proportions having been recently upholstered in a deep buttoned hand-dyed leather with a double brass close nailed studwork finish. Raised on original ring turned walnut legs terminating on brass collars and castors circa 1860.
Offered in excellent condition having been recently restored this wonderful stool has been adapted from a daybed having the raised end taken off. One of the legs has been stamped with a serial number and there is a bowed central iron bar to the middle which are all signs this was made by a very good 19th-century cabinet making / upholstery firm.
Very sought after by interior designers as they have a dual purpose so can be used as a coffee/magazine table. They are normally sold at Christie’s making between £3000- £5000.
A similar stool offered at Christies South Kensington sale on the 19th November 2013 lot 51 realised £4750.
