Object Description
An Exceptional Quality And Unusually Large Mid 19th Century Flemish Ebonised And Brass Repousse, Ripple Cushion, Marginal Mirror, Of Rectangular Form, Having Large Central Bevelled Mirror Plate Surrounded By Foliate Borders And Further Mirror Plates.
The term Flemish refers to antique furniture and accessories made in the Northern European region of Flanders, no more commonly known as Belgium and The Netherlands.
This mirror is of typical design and style for many we have seen in that region, however the scale of it is extremely unusual and a really spectacular feature, we have certainly never seen one this large. Its also worth noting that this mirror could easily be hung landscape, as well as in the portrait perspective which it has been photographed as the 4 sides are all of the same design with no definied top and bottom.
Overall the condition is very good, with just a few old cosmetic repairs as you would expect for a large item of this age, but overall certainly nothing at all which is uneasy on the eye. Also all of the brass decoration is intact and it would appear that all of the mirror plates are original, if not then they are certainly very old.
Perfect for a whole variety of places to add real presence to a room, perhaps without being too elaborate and dominating we think this mirror is really something quite remarkable and would be an exceptional purchase for the right space, in fact it would probably be the making of a room.
As with all items which we offer for sale this mirror has been inspected and attended to in our workshops by our trained and highly skilled antique furniture restorers, ensuring that it is very much ready for immediate placement within the home.
