Object Description
A large and impressive 19th century gilded ormolu and bronze Louis XVI style clock garniture, having a reclined classical lady reading, next to a white enamel clock face with an eight day chiming clock, signed Deniere, Paris. Raised on a base with inset white marble panels, gilded ormolu scrolling foliate decoration, a classical inset bronze plaque depicting bacchus children playing. A matching pair of gilded ormolu and bronze six branch candelabra, each with seated putti.
Jean-François Denière, known primarily as a bronze maker, supplied clocks and candelabra for the French palaces, most notably Versailles and the Grand Trianon.
