Description:
A fine quality antique English Victorian mahogany partners desk, allowing two people to work the desk either side, circa 1860, in excellent condition. The Victorian desk has been fitted with a new top-quality black leather cow hide, decorated with gold tooling, encircled by a bevel moulded mahogany border. There are three working drawers to both sides of the top section of the desktop, with the central drawer being the largest on both sides. The drawers retain the original working brass lever locks, with working keys. The drawers are mahogany lined, constructed with hand-dovetail joints and feature quarter beaded interiors (a sign of quality). The drawer fronts retain their original turned knobs.

Each pedestal comprises three drawers and a cupboard, therefore a total of 12 drawers available. One of the pedestals incorporates a useful pull-out writing slide, situated within one of the pedestal cupboards. Both pedestals also include a locking cupboard to the rear, each with a moulded panel door, opening to reveal a removable / height adjustable shelf. The pedestals sit on their original moulded plinths, whilst retaining the original castors underneath.

The Victorian mahogany partners desk is freestanding which allows it to be situated in the centre of the room. The pedestal desk measures 5ft 6” wide x 3ft 6” deep, therefore there is significant storage space within the desk. The desk can be dismantled into three sections for easy access into the home or through narrow hallways.

This Victorian desk features a stunning red-brown mahogany colour. It has a fantastic colour and patination; having been cleaned and French polished to a professional standard in our workshop.

The mahogany partners desk would look superb in a variety of rooms from the work place to the home office. It would certainly grace any home and is a great investment as it is extremely functional. So, don’t miss out your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.

History of the Partners Desk
A partner desk, partner’s desk or partners’ desk (also known as a double desk) is a mostly historical form of desk, a large pedestal desk designed and constructed for two users working while facing each other, therefore a double-sided desk. The defining features of a partner’s desk are a deep top and two sets of drawers or cupboards, one at each end of the pedestal.

Partners’ desks emerged during the Georgian 18th century period, often used by banking or legal partners, and other professional services, to work in close proximity. Partners’ desks were often viewed as a status symbol, reflecting the wealth and success of the firms or individuals that owned such large desks. Offering significant storage space, for paperwork and large files in the cupboard, they were extremely useful and practical.
