Object Description
A beautiful, good quality, antique mahogany desk in superb condition. It would make a stunning carter piece for an office or library and would easily accommodate two people. With nine drawers to both sides there is plenty of storage space.
The top is fitted with three drawers to the front and reverse. The top also has extending writing slides, with writing leather surfaces, to both ends.
The middle drawer, on both sides, is decorated with a deep band of ormolu with a design of circles and acanthus leaves.
There are three drawers to each pedestal front and back, and the desk has rounded and panelled corners.
All drawers are oak lined with hand cut dovetail joints, ogee mouldings to the front ages and cast brass drop handles.
The desk stands on point bases with are decorated with brass beading along the top edge. The pedestals also have panels to the outsides.
It has recently benefitted from professional cleaning and traditional restoration including french polishing. It also has a replacement black hide writing surface fitted with gilt and blind tooling.
The desk has two beautiful ornate keys for the top central drawers.
