Object Description

A large antique Twyfords twin Belfast sink.

It displays two large deep stoneware Belfast style sinks differing in depth, sat on a wrought iron stand showcasing large eye-catching scrolls.

Dating to circa 1900, this twin sink was likely once used as a handy, wide slop sink for washing laundry and other items. Today, it could be used as a stylish addition to kitchens and utilities period and modern alike.

Twyford Hanley

In 1680, Joshua Twyford was the first of the Twyford family to establish a commercial pottery near Shelton Old Hall, Hanley.

At its peak in the 20th century, the Twyfords company operated in four continents; with factories in the UK, South Africa, India, and Australia.

Thomas Twyford established his first factory in Bath Street, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent – hence the company name Twyford Hanley.

The company ceased in the UK in 2011.

Object Condition

Good structural condition. Fitted with a modern waste. Light surface wear. Couple of repairs to the top of the bowl on the inside top right edge. Shown with modern taps, not supplied just for demonstration purposes. Left bowl has a depth of approximately 20cm and right depth 31cm.

FROM THE M50 / ROSS-ON-WYE

At the end of the M50, take the A40 towards Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth. Take the A49 Hereford Road (third roundabout after leaving the M50). Ignore the first two signposts for Wormelow, stay on the A49 for approximately nine miles and take the next left turn after passing the Pilgrim Hotel, signed A466 Wormelow. Follow the road for approximately 400 meters. We are located halfway down the hill on the right-hand side. The site is called: Grove Farm / The Grove.

FROM A49 HEREFORD

Follow the A49 south from Hereford for approximately five miles. After the uphill section at the Callow, there is a layby on your right followed by one on your left. Take the next right turn onto the A466 signed Wormelow / Monmouth. Follow the road for approximately 400 meters. We are located halfway down the hill on the right-hand side. The site is called: Grove Farm / The Grove.
