Object Description
Large Art Deco glass and giltwood mirror
Continental, c. 1930
Height 172cm, width 127cm, depth 9cm
This striking mirror was expertly crafted around 1930, during the peak years of the Art Deco period. Its geometric and symmetrical motifs, lack of excess decoration, and rich colours make it an exemplary piece of design from this period.
An elegant blue glass and giltwood frame surrounds the large central mirror glass. The eight rectangular giltwood panels plus a delicate giltwood border around the mirror pane provide a shining golden contrast against the eye-catching blue, and are a marker of the mirror’s sophisticated design. All elements are mounted on a richly-coloured wooden backing, and the wood grain peeks from all sides around the piece.
This tasteful yet vibrant mirror would add a touch of refined elegance to both contemporary and traditional interiors.
