Object Description

An elegant and finely woven 19th century Tabriz attributed to Hadji Jalili with an understated monochrome drawing and harmonious vegetable dyed colour combination of tan, ivory, olive green and grey. The beautiful main border is particular, framed each side by over eight inner borders that are still present on all sides.

This early Tabriz carpet is in very well preserved condition for every day use with minimal sign of age related wear. All the original inner and plain borders are still present on all sides. A rare feature for a rug of this age.

A sophisticated rug with a discreet elegance to blend in a contemporary or classic room. Not common in this large format.

Object History

The city of Tabriz in north west Persia has been a major city of fine weaving since the 14th Century.

It experienced an artistic revival at the end of the 19th century and saw the emergence of one of the most important and influential Master weavers of the era Hadji Jalili. He created magnificent court carpets with his unique artistic drawing using light colour palette and impeccable workmanship, making them much sought after by interior designers and collectors. The best Tabriz carpets of this era are attributed to him and his workshop.

Object Condition
