Object Description
Large Chinese hardstone model of a flower tree in a cloisonné enamel planter
Chinese, 20th Century
Height 48cm, width 39cm, depth 23cm
Crafted from a selection of hardstones and using the complex technique of cloisonné enamelling, the flower tree model is a superb Chinese collectable.
Growing from the planter is a metal tree trunk from which extends a few metal, thread-covered branches. A sea of pastel green jade leaves covers the planter, adding to the very rich and interesting composition. Among the leaves are several hardstone flowers crafted from, for example, agate and rose quartz. The various tones of the hardstones beautifully match the rest of the piece. A larger hardstone flower is positioned near the tree trunk.
The planter is adorned using the technique of cloisonné enamelling. Its panels portray various pots with flowers, such as cherry blossoms as well as home décor pieces like vases. Among the objects on the bright turquoise ground are depictions of larger flowers and scrolling motifs.
