Object Description
Large Chinese hardstone tree model with birds in a cloisonné enamel pot
Chinese, 20th Century
Height 42cm, width 31cm, depth 23cm
Crafted in 20th century China, this superb objet d’art depicts a lush flower tree with charming birds perching on the branches, an unusual addition to objects of this type.
A stunning cloisonné enamel planter adorns the lower half of the piece. Among the bright blue enamel ground is a sea of red, yellow, and blue swirling patterns. A large chrysanthemum flower features prominently in the centre of the planter and is framed by large green leaves. Flanking it are two other flowers. The top and bottom are gilt adding a pop of gold to the piece.
Emerging from the planter is a brown metal tree trunk from which a selection of thread-covered branches are growing. Each one terminates with yellow hardstone petals (most likely crafted from yellow jade) arranged to form flowers. Vivid orange beads act as the stigmas adding a pop of colour to the tree. Two hardstone birds, most likely carved from jade, are perching on the branches among the flowers.
Of a large size with unusual features, this Chinese work of art would be a superb home décor addition.
