Object Description
Large clear cut-glass chandelier by Baccarat
French, Early 20th Century
Height 130cm, diameter 105cm
Brimming with fine detailing that displays extraordinary craftsmanship, this beautiful crystal chandelier highlights the skill of Baccarat’s makers.
The chandelier is separated into two main sections, the upper one purely ornamental. The lower section features twenty-four light fixtures, which are surmounted by S-scroll-shaped branches. The fixtures sit inside tiered bobeches of a floral design, which are signed ‘Baccarat’ variously. From the bobeches hang spear-shaped pendants, beautifully catching the light once the chandelier is illuminated.
The upper ornamental tier sits beneath a wonderfully etched fluted top canopy. Two tiers of delicate scrolls extend from the column, each connecting to a falling column of floral shades and pendants. On both the upper and lower sections, there is further ornamental decoration around the base of the arms: the top level, rosettes, and the lower level, flowers. An additional canopy separates these two sections, which also features a foliate design.
Making opulent crystal glassware since the mid-18th century, French company Baccarat has long held a reputation for creating exquisite pieces for luxury clientele. Gaining international fame, Royal patronage, and the recognition of important awards at several universal exhibitions, the Baccarat firm continues to uphold a distinguished reputation across the world.
This beautiful chandelier features excellent decoration that exploits the design possibilities of cut-crystal, making it a superbly eye-catching piece for an appropriate interior space.
