Object Description

A very fine large ancient Egyptian faience amulet depicting the wedjat, or Eye of Horus. The body of the amulet is formed of blue faience and displays the typical silhouette, combining human and falcon ocular imagery. Sloping protrusions portray the brow and almond-shaped eye, beneath which a vertical protrusion represents the cheek marking. The brow and large, circular pupil are detailed in black faience. The reverse is smooth and unworked. The amulet was perforated longitudinally for suspension, though this is now filled.
