Object Description

A large Egyptian steatite cowroid, with a band of linear incisions to the base. The reverse is decorated with a large figure of the god Bes, recognisable from his typical squatting stance and stylised plumed headdress. Flanking the figure are two small uraei. The cowroid has been pierced longitudinally for suspension. A large example and finely carved.

Date: Circa 1550-1070 BC
Period: New Kingdom

Ex private UK collection, Mr. DP, formerly acquired from a London ADA dealership, from 2004-2012.

Object Condition

Very fine, earthly encrustations to the surface.
