Object Description
An antique silver bowl of plain circular form on a stepped foot with broad gadrooned borders. The decoration is very striking – the single band of matted ornament has applied bacchanalian face masks, the magnificent twin coiling rope handles each culminate in a basket of fruit. Good size and substantial weight.

Height 22.4cm (to top of handle). Spread across handles 35cm. Diameter 25cm.

A good size, useful for fruit or flowers. Excellent size for use as a wine cooler. Makes a matching suite together with #9740 Pair of Tureens.
Marks. Stamped on the edge of the base rim with a full set of English silver hallmarks.

Mark entered as plateworker, in partnership with Daniel Pontifex, 29 July 1791. Second mark alone, 1 September 1794. Third mark 30 June 1798. Fourth mark, 5 February 1821.
