Object Description
A very fine, ancient Greek, Hellenistic, core-formed amphoriskos, made of a beautiful dark blue glass. The vessel is composed of an elongated, ovoid body, which tapers into a pointed bottom. A rounded base-knob, made of a dark amber-yellow glass, has been applied to the bottom of the amphoriskos. The gently sloping shoulders rise sharply to a long, cylindrical neck, from which a wide, flat rim-disk expands around a small circular mouth. Yellow trailing outlines the outer edge of the thick, flat rim. Two amber-yellow coloured, ribbed strap handles have been applied on either side of the elegant neck, curving up to meet the rim before connecting to the shoulders. The amphoriskos has been decorated with trails of white and bright yellow ascending up the vessel. At the centre of the body, the trailing is tooled into a feather pattern in panels of upwards and downwards strokes. The yellow and white trailing continues up the neck of the amphoriskos to the thick rim.
The piece has been mounted on a custom-made stand. Please note that the measurements below include the stand. The amphoriskos alone measures 13.4cm in height, 5.6cm in length, and weighs 108.5g.
