Object Description
Large Meissen porcelain Rococo style centrepiece
German, Late 19th Century
Height 42cm, width 40cm, depth 25cm
According to a design by E. A. Leuteritz, this superb centrepiece was made by the Meissen porcelain manufactory in the late nineteenth century. With a rockwork base, edged with moulded scrollwork, it is executed in Rococo style painted sculptural porcelain. The vibrant, playful, and colourful piece is applied with a variety of floral elements, and the bowl is further mounted with a pair of handles, and a pierced quatrelobe basket.
The base is also applied with eight allegorical putti, emblematic of the Seasons. The base bears the Meissen underglazed crossed-swords mark in blue, and in incised with the model number 605 in impressed numerals.
