Large Minton Victorian Majolica Exotic 'Indian' Vase

Object Description

Minton Majolica vase which features exotic birds, a butterfly, peonies, lotus flowers and dragon handles. This pattern is catalogued by Minton as ‘Indian’. Minton blue ground version. Colouration: green, blue, ochre, are predominant. The piece bears maker’s marks for the Minton pottery. Bears a pattern number, ‘202’. Marks include a factory specific date cipher for the year 1873.

Object Condition

Generally Good. Small flakes to the butterfly. Small flakes to flower. Small flakes to the dragon handles. Large flake underneath dragon handle. KILN EFFECTS: firing crack to the handle; glaze run in places; small firing pits in places.
