Object Description
Large Orientalist bronze group by Bergman
Austrian, c. 1910
Height 28cm, width 18cm, depth 27cm
This exceptional bronze group is by Bergman, one of early twentieth-century Vienna’s most famed producers. The group, crafted from cold-painted bronze, depicts a man standing on a prayer rug. The man, wearing Orientalist garb, stands with his feet together and his arms raised overhead. The rug he stands on is richly detailed and plausibly creased, while the bronze of the man’s dress is superbly cast and finished. The underside of the sculpture is marked ‘B’, for Bergman.
