Object Description
Large Ormolu and Cloisonné Enamel three piece clock set.
French, 19th Century
Clock: height 54cm, width 29cm, depth 17cm
Vases: height 35cm, width 15cm, depth 14cm
Comprising a clock and pair of flanking vases, all similarly decorated, this beautiful three-piece clock set is outstanding both for its elegant design, and the exceptional quality of its craftsmanship. With the same manner of gilt decoration across the three items, in particular the feet and bases, which are united by the same style of sphinx busts with fleur de lis interspersed, the clock is adorned with glazed front and sides, in beautiful cloisonné enamel panels.
Several of the bronze elements are marked ‘Henry,’ while the back of the movement’s case is marked ‘Miller & Sons,’ indicating it was imported and retailed in England by this well-known retailer, founded in 1851 in Piccadilly, London. The clock also features a presentation label, which is dated October 1966.
