Object Description

A Superb Quality Pair of Mid 19th Century Oak Hall Chairs, Or Library Chairs, In The Gothic Taste And Of Bold Proportions. They Have Very Attractive Carved Decoration To Backs And Panelled Seats With Elegant Scrolling Arms Raised On Square Legs With Moulded Panel Decoration.

Its difficult to know where to start when describing these magnificent, throne like chairs. The quality of construction and overall execution is really quite exceptional and they are off remarkably unusual large scale. We cannot decide whether they are large hall chairs, which it is common to find wooden seats on of course, or whether they are more likely to have been some kind of formal throne type chair. Either way as mentioned already they are really rather spectacular and a most unusual find indeed.

The carved decoration is incredibly crisp and detailed and overall their condition is excellent, with just a few minor bumps, scuffs and bruises. These chairs would be the absolute making of many a room, in many a house, but they would be exceptionally well suited to a large entrance hall, games/billiards room, or possibly even an upstairs landing.

They are also surprisingly comfortable to sit on, which often isn’t the case of course with wooden seated, upright design antique chairs!
