Object Description
Large Paul Silvestre silvered bronze model of Diana for Susse Frères
French, Early 20th Century
Height 85cm, width 46cm, depth 20cm
This superb silvered bronze sculpture showcases Diana, the Roman goddess of hunting, in mid-stride and holding her bow. It is the work of the French sculptor Paul Silvestre (1884-1976) with the model being cast by the famous Susse Frères workshop in Paris. The sculpture is very finely executed with a contrast of textures where Diana’s body is smooth, and the surrounding stand and fabric are of a more textured finish.
There are inscriptions to the base reading ‘Silvestre, cire perdue’ and ‘Susse Fes Edts Paris’ and there is also the stamp for Susse Freres.
This fine antique sculpture would be a wonderful addition to the collection of anyone interested in Roman mythology.
