Object Description
Large scale Jacobean fire surround with 17th century origins.
Two armorial crests make up the centrepiece of this magnificent Jacobean fire surround. Every panel is ornately carved blending numerous carving techniques and styles.
The footblocks have geometric lozenge carvings, leading on to column legs supporting the main body. The high relief lozenge patterns replicate throughout the lower section before leading on to the painted armorial crests.
The hatchments, each framed in ornate fretwork appear to show the joining of two families with the same crest on the left side of the shield. The high shelf above is adorned with dental moulding above more complex fretwork coloured with red and gilt touches.
