Object Description

A late 17th century (circa 1680) oak moulded front chest of drawers with fine, faded patina.

This chest of drawers consists of a three plank top with a moulded edge leading down to four long drawers.

The top drawer with moulded decoration to give the appearance of two smaller drawers, the drawer below of deeper proportions with geometric moulded decoration, drawer three and four replicating the designs of drawer one and two, all drawers with brass drop handles and decorative central brass escutcheons.

The sides with panelled ends with a moulded edge below, all supported on stile feet.

This chest of drawers was made in two sections, the top lifts off the lower section which is not uncommon for pieces of this period as cottages and properties were small so this made moving items through small staircases and upper floors easier.

This chest of drawers is in very good condition for age with evidence of old repairs, it is of stable construction and can go straight into a home.
