Object Description
Late 19th century Arts & Crafts style silver mounted walking stick
English, 1893
Height 90cm, diameter 3.5cm
Expertly crafted in 1893, this antique walking stick embodies the essence of the Arts & Crafts movement, a period that celebrated the beauty of nature and fine craftsmanship.
The elegantly designed silver handle is adorned with intricate, flowing patterns inspired by the natural world, echoing the work of notable designers such as William Morris (English, 1834-1896). These delicate engravings enhance the handle’s artistic appeal, while the lower section, which also forms the collar, is stamped with full hallmarks. These include the maker’s mark ‘E.R.’ – likely for Edward Richardson – along with a date code and additional silver markings.
The shaft, made from light-toned wood, adds warmth to the design. It gradually tapers towards the base, where a sturdy metal ferrule protects the antique.
Blending artistry with historical significance, this refined walking stick is a superb acquisition for collectors who appreciate the craftsmanship and stylistic influence of the Arts & Crafts era.
