Object Description
A late 19th century (circa 1890) freestanding Chinese hardwood pot stand or table of rectangular form.
This pot stand consists of a rouge marble inset top surrounded by a hardwood banding, the frieze below with superb foliate and floral carved decoration of lotus flowers (a symbol of purity and devotion) and cherry blossom (a symbol of love and passion) terminating with carved scroll design, below the frieze a pierced and carved stylised bamboo decoration.
The stand is supported by shaped legs with two lower recessed shelves with moulded edge and terminating with claw feet.
This versatile pot stand is in very good condition for age, is of stable construction and can go straight into a home – this would be ideal for displaying a large pot, lamp etc. or used as an occasional table.
