Object Description

A late 19th century fine quality Grand Tour Classical bronze of ‘The Dancing Faun’, after the antique with a beautiful rich patina, stamped ‘Duchemin’.

‘The Dancing Faun’ with typical faunlike features of his small horns and small goat’s tail is depicted standing next to a tree stump playing his music, his head bent forward holding cymbals in each hand, his right foot resting on a kroupezion attached to his sandal, this was a metal plate making a noise similar to a tap shoe, all supported on circular base signed ‘Duchemin’ – Issak Duchemin was a 19th century Belgian sculptor.

This bronze is after the original ancient Roman marble figure by Massimiliano Soldani (Italian, 1656-1740) in the Tribuna gallery in the Uffizi, Florence dating from the 17th century.

This bronze figure in in excellent original condition for age and can go straight into a home or collection.
