Object Description
A Fine Late 19th Century French Kingwood and Ormolu Vitrine or Display Cabinet, the present piece with its glazed sides and glazed top panel was designed to be viewed in the round and, as such, was probably originally intended to be part of the fittings in a luxury retailer or jeweller’s shop of the period. It is veneered throughout in kingwood with ormolu mounts, including sabots (foot mounts) adding a further touch of elegance to the design. The piece has a hinged door to the front and retains its original finely cast and chased ormolu key. Inside there is a single glazed shelf, dividing the interior in to two distinct compartments.
The quality of the mounts and cabinet work certainly points to this piece being made by one of the leading paris cabinet makers of the time.
Perfect for displaying precious objects in a home or retail setting, this is an extremely fine example of a small display cabinet or vitrine. This piece will bring a little belle epoque elegance to any setting.
