Object Description

An exquisite late Medieval, silver gilt fede ring. The bezel is formed from two clasped hands, adorned with a stylised crown. Attention has been paid particularly to the long, slender fingers, curling around each palm. The shoulders of the ring are formed from the wrists of each hand, which leads to a decorated shank. This has been decorated with geometric motifs.

Closest UK ring size: R. Measurements given below are for the internal width of the ring, it’s diameter. External width is 2.2cm.

Date: Circa 15th Century AD

Found Preston, East Yorkshire, Mr D Everingham, June 2002. PAS record for this ring: Portable Antiquities Scheme, UK, ID YORYM-7031EB. A copy of the PAS report is given with the item. As a UK find, this item will require an export licence for international export. This can take several months to acquire.

Object Condition

Very fine, some loss of gold gilt as expected. Repair to the shank.
