Liberty & Co Tudric Pewter Mantel Clock

Liberty & Co Tudric mantel clock from a design by Archibald Knox, low arched English pewter case with foliate decoration and corner panels.
Blue / green enamel dial with copper chapter ring, Roman numerals and original hands.
Eight day French movement with platform escapement. C.1910
The case stamped to the underneath ‘Made In England, Tudric Pewter, 01155 ‘Solkets’.

Liberty launched its Cyrnic ( silver) range in 1899 followed by it’s Tudric range in 1902. They invested in the Birmingham firm of WH Haseler ( using the Solkets mark) Haseler reportedly manufactured all pewter ware for Liberty until 1926. Not only using the ‘Solkets’ mark but others including ‘English pewter’. The Tudric range used innovative designs by designers including David Veasey and Archibald Knox.

Archibald Knox (1864-1933) was born on the Isle of Man to Scottish parents. By 1899 he was designing for Liberty & Co on their Cymric (silver) range and the Tudric range ( introduced in 1902. Knox’s designs for Liberty & Co made his style widely known despite his name not appearing on any of the objects.

Object Condition

very good condition, the clock movement has been completely stripped down and overhauled and is in full working order
