Object History

Limoges has been the centre for enamel work for many centuries, from the 12th century Limoges was famous for the Champleve enamels, which were predominantly of religious inspiration.
During the 15th century the skills were revived but with the emphasis on painted enamels of secular & highly decorative subjects, particulary employing the technique of Grisaille decoration.
There was a further revival during the 19th century through to the Art Nouveau & Art Deco Periods.Durring the Art Deco Period the workshop of Camille Faure was one of the most important producing highly decorative pieces in vibrant colours with bold geometric inspired designs.
