Object Description

A fantastic cast aluminium model of a Super Constellation aircraft on original stand in period KLM livery, circa 1953. By Walkers Westway Models who were active from 1942 – 1957 as bespoke model aircraft makers to the aircraft/airline industries, and were based in East Acton, London.

KLM introduced the Lockheed L-1049 Super Constellation on their Amsterdam to New York transatlantic service, “The Flying Dutchman” in 1953.
In the Netherlands, the Constellation range of aircraft were instrumental in the development of post-war intercontinental and transatlantic air transport and played a key role in the waves of European emigration to Australia, Canada and New Zealand between 1946 and 1962.
During this period, as many as 48 Constellations and extended Super Constellations flew for KLM making the Constellation one of the most frequently used aircraft types in KLM’s history.
