Object Description

LOUIS XV KINGWOOD MARQUETRY COMMODE ‘A FAÇADE CINTRÉE’
With two short drawers over two long drawers. Fine quality gilt bronze mounts and shaped Breche marble top.
France c. 1750’s. Stamped ‘A.M. CRIARD’ and Marque de Jurande JME. One later key.

Object History

Antoine-Mathieu Criard, son of Mathieu Criard maître in 1747, he worked in Paris successively from the rue de Charenton, the rue de Richelieu then the rue Saint Thomas-du-Louvre, finally establishing himself in the rue du Bac. He worked under Louis XV and his furniture is known for the quality of the veneers.
